Fall 2017 Bookshelf

I miss the days where I had nothing to do except to read until I finished a book in just a few hours. I miss hanging out at libraries during school hours. Or at Barnes & Noble bookstores for the entirety of a Saturday and sitting in their big green comfy couches. That was my childhood and the start of my love of reading. It’s unfortunate that I don’t read as much as I did as a child, but I’m determined to get back into it. And luckily for me, there are a few I’d love to get my hands on!

The first book I want to read is by Robert Galbraith (a.k.a. JK Rowling). Why the different Screen Shot 2017-09-18 at 12.54.39 PMname? She wanted to make a distinction between her work of the HP series versus the Strike series. Unlike the HP books, these books don’t seem to have an endpoint which… YAY! The most recent book, Career of Evil, is the third book in the series. I’ve read the other two and they are fantastic! The series is based on Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott. In this book, Robin receives a package containing a severed right leg. Strike believes that someone from his past sent it. They tell the police, but end up taking their case into their own hands!
I don’t know about any of you, but I’m so excited to read this! I love this series because it’s so detailed and well thought out. Galbraith is a fantastic writer and I can’t wait for the next book which is called Lethal White!

The second book is by A. Lee Martinez. He is an author I recently discovered through a friend. He is such a creative writer and his characters are nothing like you could Screen Shot 2017-09-18 at 12.50.10 PMimagine. They are grumpy, witty, and overall relatable which is enjoyable! His books are instant page turners because they’re fun to read and you get so absorbed in this world he’s created. He doesn’t write sequels so what you read is all you get. I love that! As readers, we already have so many series that we love to live in. With Martinez, he gives the opportunity to explore new ones! New characters, personalities, and adventures. This book, Emperor Mollusk versus The Sinister Brain, is centered around a retired evil villain. Emperor Mollusk has done all he’s wanted to do and more. Now he just wants to do what he enjoys like explore the boundaries of dangerous science! Unfortunately for him, assassins of a legendary cult AND a bodiless megalomaniac are after him and the planet Earth. Now he has to come out of retirement and defeat The Sinister Brain. Yeah, I’m really excited to read this!!! The cover looks intense, doesn’t it?

Last, but not least is Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear. We allScreen Shot 2017-09-18 at 12.57.21 PM know Liz from her bestseller Eat, Pray, Love. That was more about her life while this is more of her discovery of what it means to live a creative life, how to live one, and how to overcome the fears you have to begin one. I enjoy her books and since I’m a creative, I wanted to explore her thoughts on the subject! Plus the cover is beautiful! I’m such a sucker for a good cover!
She’s also got a podcast called Magic Lessons! I’ve listened to a few and honestly, it’s one of the most interesting and encouraging podcasts I’ve listened to yet. You should give it a shot!

That’s all I got for now! I’ll do some updates once I’m getting through one or two of them! Happy Fall Equinox! Have a day! 🙂

I’m a huge HP fan and I’ve always wondered about trying the Robert Galbraith series, might have to give it a go after reading your recommendation 🙂 I love your blog layout by the way, very clean!

I didn’t want to start the series because I love HP so much, but really wanted to see what was different about this series. Obviously everything is different except for JK’s attention to detail and her ability to keep you reading! Fantastic series, highly highly recommend! Also thank you! It took forever to find the right layout. 😊
